BOS KINNES ~ the cross-generational environmental group and education hub in Ocean View, spear-headed by community leader Mutheera Rademeyer. These teenagers and Forever Young seniors are breaking the mould of environmental custodianship in their community. The Chacma Champions programme, which helped to cultivate this initiative was a rollercoaster of experiences resulting in a strong and courageous group of women, who are ready to be “Brave towards the Natural”. We are enjoying creating a network of support with these women as they build their community conservation initiative.

In addition to the after-school homework club, the community and beach clean-ups and the mass cooking and food distribution, the Bos Kinnes Environmental Group is currently working on alien clearing with Kommetjie’s FynForce initiative, as mountain marshalling crew for trail run events on the Cape Peninsula with Take Back our Mountains, on the Kirstenbosch Outreach Greening Programme with SANBI and forms part of our CoastWatchers network.

You can support Bos Kinnes by donating to their education initiatives, stocking their soup kitchen and buying a reusable beach clean-up bag, handmade by the Bos Kinnes Elders, picture below.

Bos Kinnes Environmetal Club Launch
Members from the Ocean View community, along with local organisations and environmental bodies, gathered at the newly opened Bos Kinnes Hub to celebrate the launch of this new environmental group.
Bos Kinnes, led by Mutheera’s Projects and made up of children and members of the Forever Young Seniors Club, aims to champion for the environment and surrounding natural spaces. Highlighting the importance of conservation and the sharing of indigenous knowledge across the generations.
As well as already being part of the CoastWatchers network and supporting the Table Mountain National Park Marine Unit through the Marine Watch initiative, Bos Kinnes will be conducting community clean-ups, environmental education and exploration, and setting up a “recycling for a nutritious meal” initiative.
The launch, made possible by Nature Connect and Table Mountain Fund, was opened by guests of honour Dr Bramley Lemine and Toni Dyers, and supported by Guardians of the Deep NPC, American International School of Cape Town, FynForce from Kommetjie (Kommetjie Residents and Ratepayers Association), Music in Community, Petco Producer Responsibility Organisation NPC, Rotary Club of Table Bay and the South African National Biodiversity Institute
We look forward to being part of the future of this awesome initiative
If you would like to support the Bos Kinnes, they are also selling repurposed, reusuable beach clean-up bags that can be taken on your next visit to the beach. They cost R 50 per bag and can be purchased from Mutheera Fortune.

If you want to see a child’s full potential, give them the platform to shine. There is a lot of hope for our beloved community, we just need to invest in our youth and show more compassion. Sport is just one way of mending our community” – Mutheera Rademeyer

Founded in April 2019, Mutheera’s Projects runs several projects to support the more vulnerable members of their community, such as children and the elderly, and encourage kinship and collaboration between groups to build community spirit. Based in Ocean View, Cape Town, Mutheera and Ashraf Rademeyer coordinate all of these projects, while members of their Youth Club assist in the cooking and with the food deliveries throughout their neighbourhood.
